An Uncommon Travel Experience!
New company offers unique vacation concept:

For the adventurous Boom Gen's (and others) who want to take a more leisurely approach toward enjoying
Southern California beaches, deserts, mountains, and
especially it's curious sub-cultures, this small company
is offering vintage, restored Volkswagen camper buses
in the U.S.A. for short or long term rental.

The husband-wife team of Bill and Diane Staggs saw a
niche for a more relaxed and less harried way of taking a holiday. Vintage Surfari Wagons
(http://www.vwsurfari.com) is an Orange County,
California based venture whose vision is to offer a very
distinct experience to their clients.

Bill is a VW fan and surfer who has owned and driven VW buses for decades, and has come to appreciate the
slower and oft times more relational mode of travel the
VW camper bus proves to be. The ubiquitous bus blends in with the local populace far better than a typical rental car, and other VW bus owner/drivers are instant long lost friends. All this makes the "bus" experience unique and most enjoyable! He relates how where ever he goes, he meets other folks in similar VW's as well as many others who have fond memories to share of their past when they or their parents owned and traveled in these singular vehicles. Say's Bill, "People are always waving at us from
their VW's, and when I pull into a surf spot, there is
instant acceptance as a cognoscenti. Even young kids
who didn't grow up in the "hippie" days know they're cool.
I have had the most interesting conversations with folks
that can't seem to hold back the flood of memories they
have from their times in one of these buses. I really love
going traveling or camping in mine, mostly because I am
always surprised at who or what I may encounter. We got thinking that there might be others who would like to
experience some of the same things we do."

The layout of the VW factory installed campers is well
thought out, they have an almost yacht like atmosphere,
with lots of storage, room to sleep four people, and
amenities such as propane range and dual power
refrigerator, among other features. Fuel economy is very good compared to RVs; a 20-mpg average is common. These vans are easy to drive and maneuver and they gracefully fit into even the smallest camp spots, especially as compared to a typical motor coach.
Granted, speed is not the bus's forté, a more leisurely
pace being the norm. However this gives the traveler
more time to appreciate the unique, varied, and extremely beautiful Southern California scenery as it passes serenely by your windows. Plus, one can simply pull off almost anywhere and set up "camp" simply by opening the large side sliding door.

All this said, Diane tells us that their target market is
really folks world wide who already love, appreciate and
maybe even drive these iconic vehicles at home. "We are interested in catering to a select and really special
segment of people from all over the country and the
world, who seek a travel experience that at once unique
as well as familiar. Bus owners and those who
appreciate the symbolic nature of their place in the
Boomer generation's life history are a peculiarly loveable
group of folks. As I've traveled with my husband in our
bus, it never ceases to amaze me how friendly, helpful
and down to earth "Bus People" have proven to be. I look forward to travel in ours as much for the new
relationships we'll make as for the places we're visiting."

Vintage Surfari Wagons offers its clientele a host of
services. Simply rent a Bus, or have them customize your experience with full itineraries that can include
campground reservations, event reservations, sports
equipment, lessons and instructions - you name it. Just
ask them and they'll do their utmost to provide what you
want!

A great idea. A great service. Great people. Great value!
