Subject: 10/16/07 Reunion

For all those who missed the reunion, you were missed. It was a great time had by all. Tim did a fantastic job of putting this reunion on. I dont know how he could have done better. The hotel was Ok. The transportation was great. We went to PI, got put in the yellow footprints and a DI actually came out and gave his familiar speech in the same screaming voice that has rung in our ears for over 37 years. When he asked if we understood him, it was scary how we fell right back into it and hollered "YES SIR!" all of us in unison like it was back then. Then he had us line up in twos to go into the receiving barracks. Thats when the sweat started running. You couldnt help it, just the thought of boot camp all over again. That was my Halloween scare. We were able to shop in the PX. and go thru the museum. Then went to dinner at the O Club at the MAW. Good meal Southern seafood boil. It was such a good and busy day that on the way back there was only a coule of voices, the rest of us needed our sleep. We were taken to Patriots Point where we visited the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier, A Destroyer a Coast Guard cutter and a submarine. The ones who could get thru the very small gangways, my wife not me, in the sub said it was really an experience. The one place that brought back a lot of memories was the Fire support base mockup for Vietnam. Anyone who can should go thru this. From my viewpoint at least it was very lifelike, Hootches, Towers, Cobra Gunship, medical bldg, fire holes, ammo bunkers, etc. Again transportation was provided by Tim and a few who volunteered to drive the vans for the rest of us. We had group pictures by Company and individual pictures with the wives or buddys for the memory book. A lot of old friendships were renewed along with a bunch of new ones. For me personally, I made three new brothers and a whole lot of new friends. It really meant a lot to me. I could go on and on but I dont want you to get too sad that you couldnt go. This was my first, but not my last, reunion.
