My oldest son is a career military person, he has been in the airforce for over 12 years. I think most people would be shocked and dismayed at how our military sons and daughters must live. There are WIC trailers on most bases, which is a valuable service but also speaks unspoken words of the value we as a country place on our military families. Do you know that a military family lives at/below the national poverty line? We no longer provide uniforms, boots, etc to our soldiers. The cleaning, pressing and sewing on of well earned patches, commissions, ribbons is paid for our soldiers. Yet, with all this said my wonderful son loves his "job" and trudges along with continued assistence from the family. Where is their "raise"? Young people continue to enlist, some thinking that it will provide financial security , some a patriotic duty. My son enlisted and I am proud of him and sad for him. One thing I did not realize is that he would be among the poor in America.
