Subject: THE END OF THE ATLANTA AREA ERA, AT THE END OF THE YEAR

On October 2, 1999, 4 years ago, I left Detroit and came to Atlanta.
I didn't know anyone here. I came to spread my infectious love of The Blues to the Southeast.
I played mostly locally for the first year and a half because I had a band here that couldn't tour. But that gave me time to build a fan base here in the Atlanta Area.
In June 2001 I called my Brother Caleb who was still living in the Detroit area and asked him to come to Atlanta and play with me and bring his drummer Damien with him. They agreed to come and play with me because they had watched me play for years and this was a chance for them to play music full time.
A friend named CJ was willing to put them up at her house for a little while when they first got here, She also made a very good recommendation about a bass played named Dustin. Thank you CJ!!!
So on June 21st 2001 at Poppers bar in Marietta, Caleb Ford, Damien Lewis, Dustin Sargent and Motor City Josh played their fist show together in front of a full house.
I brought a 47 passenger bus load of people from the southside of Atlanta to hear that first show. That was the first time I met Dustin Sargent, I walked up to him, Introduced my self and told him "key of G" and then counted of that first song. "Going to The Country"...
In the last 2 1/2 years we have played over 650 shows in 26 states and we have been to England twice in the last year.
Dustin who was already a somewhat seasoned Bass player cut his blues teeth with me. Damien who came from a very musical background formed in to a very solid rock steady drummer.
Caleb who barely knew any music theory at all, but always had a nice singing voice since he was a child, has turned into a great vocalist and guitarist.
It is time for Caleb and Damien to spread their wings and do something else on their own. I think they are going to persue their love of Reggie Music and their desire to perform in front of college age kids.
We are not sure what Dustin is going to do. He is unpredictable. I don't think he knows, but I know he is always looking for that better gig.
As for myself, I almost moved to Chicago before I came to Atlanta 4 years ago.
Chicago is where I need to be because I AM A BLUES MAN!!! I am going to go study with some of the older blues musicians to follow my love of the blues and get an education. Take a small break from touring my own group and relax a bit. 6 months to a year later I will have "another go at it" I'm sure.
I will miss everyone in Atlanta but I will be back.
All this being said you need to come out and see us play before it is over on New Year's Eve.
