Shalom Daniel,
It's good to see you on the Mosaic Board. Welcome!
There's a difference between those who read only the KJV and those who belong to the KJV only cult. Here's the difference... The KJV only cult, believes that the KJV is the only inspired text of the Bible. In other words, they hold it to a higher standard then even the original texts in Hebrew and/or Greek. The KJV is by far the best translation we have. It's my translation of choice. But it is exactly that... a translation. If you show them the front of their own KJV Bible, it says, "This is a translation of the Holy Bible". This stuns them! They don't realize that it wasn't originally written in English. Again, this is not all of them, but it is a large majority of them that believe this way. In the sense that the KJV is by far the best translation, yes it is. But other translations do have their place. ie... When I read the text in Hebrew then read it in English, there are times when another translation is better then the KJV. Sometimes these are subtle differences, sometimes they are huge differences. What I suggest to Believers who can't read and write in Hebrew (and in that case should be taking my courses in Hebrew... which are free on this site lol) is that they read a few different translations of the passage they are studying. That will give them a broader idea of what is being said. Also keep in mind that the KJV was written during a very anti-Semitic time. You'll see slants against the Jews at most every turn. For examples of that see my article "Jacob Have I Loved". I also enjoy David Stern's The Complete Jewish Bible. I like to read the names in their proper Hebrew. Avrahawm was his name so I like to call him that. I don't like to be called Rabbi Stonely, it's not my name lol.
Talk to you later,
Rabbi "Stanley".
