Subject: Rare book, Jeep Ford GPW S/No. 242581

I have access to a limited number of sealed NOS copies of this very rare and comprehensive book, which was published in 1997 by Japan's 4x4 Magazine. Only 2000 copies were printed in the original run, and they have been out of print ever since. However, I recently located a source with a small hoard.

For those who may not be familiar with it, this book is truly a work of art, and comes in a hinged wooden display box complete with brass data plates. Bill Frederick, author of Just Jeeps and Such, wrote of it, "It seems ironic to me, with memories of Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, that the best book (and perhaps the best restoration of a Ford jeep) is by a Japanese." The captions are in both English and Japanese. It is undoubtedly the finest pictorial work ever published on the Ford GPW, and would prove invaluable to anyone researching, restoring, or planning to restore one. It measures 11" x 11-3/4", and has 132 pages. To give you some idea of the quality of this excellent book, here are a few photos:

These books have sold on EBay during the past year or so for as much as $550 per copy. For a limited time, I’m in a position to offer them for $370 per copy, plus the cost of insured shipping. I have one myself, and I can assure you that you would not be disappointed.....it’s a fantastic book to own if you're into WWII jeeps.

Okay, now here's the catch.....I don't know yet exactly how many copies I'll be able to buy, as my source says only that he still has "a number" of copies available. I bought my personal copy from him as well as a few more I've sold on EBay, so I know that he does in fact have a stash of them and is a reliable source.

Here’s how it’ll work....in order to ensure that no one puts their money down without being assured of getting a copy, I won't accept anyone's payment up front. I will order and pay in advance for the copies ordered, simply on good faith - which I hope and believe is well placed. Obviously, this will require the outlay of a good deal of up-front cash on my part. This arrangement must be contingent on the understanding that each person requesting a book will send full payment to me upon notification that I actually have their copy in hand and am ready to ship it to them.

Please DO NOT request a copy unless you’re absolutely sure that you will be ready to pay for it once I notify you that it has arrived. In the past, it has generally taken about one to two weeks from the date I place the order to the date I receive it. If you want one of these books, please e-mail me by Sunday, May 4th, 2008, at snoopy2x@gmail.com (don’t just respond on this thread) to request a copy. On May 5th, I will order the total number of books requested.

If it turns out that I am unable to get as many copies as are requested, I will notify buyers that their book is ready for shipment in the order I received their request by e-mail - in other words, on a first-come, first-served basis. I will need to receive payment within 10 calendar days from the date you are notified that your book is ready to ship. If I don’t receive your payment within that window, I reserve the right to sell your book to the next person on the list.

Domestic shipping within continental US will be $14.50 by USPS Media Mail, insurance included. I’m sorry, but I will not be able to pre-quote exact shipping rates outside of the 48 states. However, insured USPS Air Parcel Post to Europe and Australia should be around $50 - $60, and usually takes a couple of weeks or so. Alternatively, I can also ship by insured UPS or FedEx if desired, which normally takes 3 to 4 days - although for overseas shipping, these services typically run around three to four times as much as insured USPS Air Parcel Post.

After I have your book in hand and have notified you, I can accept payment by certified cashier's check, money order, or Paypal. If you wish to pay by Paypal, however, please add 4% of the total cost to your payment. NOTE: International buyers may pay ONLY by Paypal.

I don’t know how many requests I'll get, but hopefully there will be enough books to go around. Again, please just e-mail me at the address above if you'd like to request one.

Maury
