Brechin stood in shock for a moment as the creature left, attempting to absorb it all. Then he sat in silence, and the minutes passed by. Brechin sat as still as a statue. He had seen many things, done many things. He had killed and had seen others killed. That had been his life forever.... He had seen the rise and fall of Varg super-powers, and had seen the mythic powers of the Sight.
But never had he seen something like this. This was insanity. The Varg's words echoed through his mind. ,i>All credit to you, of course. I'll make sure she thanks you sometime. ... Then his own scolding words entered his thoughts. What had he done?
At last, without looking up, he spoke to Graz, for he knew the raven was there. "What happens now? he snapped bitterly. "I shall be the first to admit I am at a loss. What happens now?"
Though this new supernatural event comletely puzzled, he knew what would happen should the Varg attempt to wreck havoc upon the Camp, if indeed that was her intention. If she caused trouble, he would pay. Drekka might even have known this was to happen, and dispite her strong liking of Brechin and his leadership in the Camp, her fury ran deeper, he knew.
And even if Drekka was to overlook any problems that could possibly occur, which was very possible, Brechin's own pride and honor would not allow any such things to go on. He would put a stop to it even were it to cost his life. He cared not about that, as many Balkar knew.
But then again, perhaps nothing bad would happen. He did not know yet what this Varg was planning.
But what about Letha? What would happen to her? Should evil fall upon her, Brechin would feel every bit of guilt for it.
