Capt. America is incorrect. If you look at Douglas' record on health care, economic development, environmental protection and conservation, substance abuse...and the list goes on...he has done a great deal in just 19 months in office. Your statements are simple and clearly partisan in nature. I don't believe that most Vermonters share your opinion, nor do most Vermonters adhere to a strict indoctrinaire view of VT politics.

On health care: fit and healthy kids...having health care for them is great, but shouldn't we be teaching them how to prevent costly and debilitating disease? Yes...then support Jim Douglas, because that's what his Fit and Healthy Kids plan does.

Chronic care...shouldn't we put the patient at the center of care? Shouldn't we reform a delivery system that evolved as an acute care system, but now treats mostly chronic conditions? Clavelle says he would save money by reducing paperwork...how? Douglas says lets develop a system that meets the needs of what constitutes 75% of our spending by focusing on chronic conditions....he understands that the payment system doesn'y matter--single payer, third party payer, multi-payer...whatever...it doesn't matter if you don't reform our delivery system. Agree? Then support Jim Douglas because that's what his plan does.

Think we should reverse the problem of substance abuse and give VTers treatment options? Yes? Then support Jim because that's what his DETER program does.

Think we should lead the nation in changing federal policy on drug reimportation, rather than simply being content to just ignore something we disagree with? Agree that this is real leadership at the national level? The support Jim because that's what he is doing.

Think we state's should be able to pool their medicaid lives to negotiate discounts with drug manufactures? Yes? Then support Jim because that's what he and democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm of MI are doing.

Think we should be fighting the Bush administrations efforts to weaken numerous environmental regulations? Think we should fight the tire burn across the lake? Think we should support traditional businesses and traditional outdoor recreations?
Think seniors should be able to qualify for long term care assistance without spending their entire nest egg? Think seniors and VTers with disabilities should be able to have more community-based or home-based care?
Think people should have options in the health care market? Think poor Vermonters will high insurance costs should be protected by the state? Think we should save medicaid from collapsing on itself because of the fiscal neglect of the past? Think we should vigorously protect our reputation of fiscal responsibilty? Think that we should balance job creation with environmental protection. Think we should clean up the neglected bays of lake champlain? Think we should invest in the people of Vermont? Think we should lower taxes on Vermont's home grown businesses and make large multi-state, multi-nation companies pay their fair share? Think we should strenghten our ties with our international friends, neighbors and trading partners? (and the list goes on...)

Yes to some, or any, of these--then support Jim because he has done these things and is working to do more.

And, he's an honest man...a yankee gentleman of distinction--when he says something he means it....when he says he will do something, he does it...and Vermonters recognize that. Those few who don't are blinded by ideology, I feel sorry for them.

PS--he's been elected as the nominee of both parties 7 out of the last 11 times he has run for statewide office. That's 6 times the number of times Clavelle has been elected as a democrat to anything.
