Subject: The Fraudulent Mr. Frist

Sen. Frist is not just a doctor. Frist's family is all about the worst of what is wrong with health care in America. Frist's father and brother were founders of Hospital Corporation of America...

"...In fact, Frist is something more than a Tennessee physician. He is the son of Thomas Frist, and brother of Thomas Frist, Jr., the founders of what was once the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), which went on to merge with Columbia Hospital Corporation in 1993 to become Columbia/HCA (The Healthcare Co.), the nation's foremost private hospital company. By 1996, the new corporation was worth $20 billion. Today, most media reports omit mention of this familial relationship, even when reporting that Bill Frist is the GOP Congressional pointperson on healthcare..."

Sen. Frist owns millions of dollars worth of holdings in it...

"...From the time Frist was 18 years old, he says, he purchased stock in the family's Hospital Corporation of America, now known simply as HCA. By the time Frist arrived in the Senate, he owned millions of dollars of company stock and said his investment had done "very well." Upon entering the Senate, he put the investments in a blind trust. Today, he says he has no idea how much HCA stock he owns. His brother Thomas is a member of the HCA board. "It is as direct a conflict of interest as you ever see in legislation that is moving through Congress," says Frank Clemente, executive director of Congress Watch, a consumer organization..."

Thomas Frist recieved $160 million salary as CEO of HCA...

"...The new for-profit HMOs that are now growing rapidly, bear little resemblance to the non-profit Kaiser program. Their executives may be paid exorbitant salaries, even by industrial standard. Thomas Frist of Hospital Corporation of America gets an annual salary of $160,000,000. For that amount of money, a hospital could hire 1,600 physicians at $100,000/year, or 4,571 nurses at $35,000/year...."

HCA settled for $840 million with Federal Government for corporation wide Medicare Fraud and overbilling...]

In December 2000, HCA agreed to pay an $840 million settlement to the federal government as a result of alleged false Medicare claims, but Frist has stressed he has no connection to the matter.
