Subject: What happened in 2000 with Pollina, happened in 2002

I am -- was a conservative Progressive. I was as close to the Democratic Party as you could get when it came to Progressive values. In fact, the reason I changed my party affiliation after Election 2000, to the Progressive Party was that I embraced a lot of the values of a grassroots campaign. But when Anthony Pollina came into this race for Lt. Governor, instead of Governor, I was curious. Anthony clearly had great name recognition, and could of waged an incredible campaign for Governor, but he gave it up for Lt. Governor. Not because he wanted to get the issues on the table, but because he thought he actually had a chance of winning in the Lt. Governors race. I had no idea that Anthony was running before I began to put forward massive amounts of support to Peter Shumlin, who I think is a great politician. I gave money to him, helped as a sign depot.

When Anthony entered the race, and then when I found out that Conservative Republican Brian Dubie had also entered the race, I was worried.

But then I saw the negative campaigning that was going on between Pollina and Shumlin. Especielly Anthony, who seemed to be dishing out a lot of negative emails to supporters, "distorting" Peter's record.
I thought that the Progressive Party had arisen higher then that kind of negative and distorting campaigning. I was wrong, yet impressed that Peter Shumlin stood away from the negativism until the end.

I hate to say it, my old Progressives, but Anthony was a spoiler in this race. In my opinion, he had no real chance in winning, and he cut the liberal vote between Peter and himself. Did he really want Brian Dubie to win. A man clearly unfit for office, and not embracing any kind of Progressive ideals? I also didn't like it when Anthony walked into the Capital Plaza in Montpeiler.

My mind shifted, what was he doing there? He handed Brian Dubie the election. And because of his candidacy, he (Anthony) cost someone like Peter Shumlin, a man with massive amounts of political experience an election.

I am going to the Town Clerk tomarrow, to change my party affiliation, I am going to become a Democrat again. I was so sick of what happened, that I can not afford to give the Progressives any more support.

Do any more Progressives think that way I am thinking right now? Then I encourage you to vote for a Democrat in 2004. I am just sick thinking about what Dubie Dubie-Doo is gonna Doo at the State House.
