Subject: The Filipina From Minneapolis Project

I am writing concerning an article online written by Broad Freeman titled "The Filipina from Minneapolis Project", and some incredibly hateful, unfounded jdugements you have made in this article.

http://users.cjb.net/filipinas/

You took six words from a discussion - and I quote: "Snerk. And may I ask why?"

From there, you make astonishing and ridiculous assumptions that an entire group of theater artists are racist. Based, might I add, only on the color of our skin. (In itself, an incredibly racist assumption). Did you even take any time to consider that news story? 1) The writer of the story chose the people he was writing about, creating the name "Tribe of Zach" and hand-picking the artists in the photo. 2) We are a portion of the Minneapolis theater community, which if you had any actual time here beyond the sixties, you would doubtless realize has advanced far beyond your imagination as far as racial and artistic tolerance 3) Are you insinuating that if we do not go out and find a black, Hmong or Chippewa artist and include them in every projects we do, we are somehow racist?

How dare you! Your very charges are racist in and of themselves! You said, "This [article] is not the proper venue to expand on a correlation between narrow perceptions¯like the garbage like I just described¯and artistic mediocrity, because that kind of thing quickly becomes evident."

Narrow Perceptions? Are you serious? You have assumed an entire philosophy and belief and placed them on an individual and a group that you have never met, never worked with, never experienced other than a fleeting moment on a chat room.

"Can you imagine the director I just described from the message board, trying very hard not to roll her eyes when some brave and hungry actress of Korean descent comes to her to audition for a play by William Inge?"

Yes, I can - because I have been in the room when she is working. You have not. You have only your own racist, revolting opinions that you clearly need no basis in any sort of fact to opine on.

From your comments in this article, and using your leaps of logic, I can assume you are an incredibly intolerant person who jumps at any chance (no matter how unbelievably slim) to play the race card, because you know people are afraid of it, and you know it advances your "agenda".

""Consider her 'snerk' in that light¯as yet another of Juliana Egley's racist artistic choices."

"another of..." Are you proud, there on your soapbox? You have never once experienced, seen or actually heard ANY sort of "racist artistic choice" come from this woman. However, that won't push your agenda, will it? So you distort and twist the truth to make your plight seem all that more poignant, when in fact, your argument is resting on nothing.

The only racist actions I have seen in this entire incident have come from you, Cantara. The fact that you have allowed that article to remain in the public eye tells more about you as an artist than you could ever 'create' about someone else out of six words.

I don't expect that you will respond to this, as I've been told previous requests have been ignored as well. I understand. Rescinding your ridiculous comments would destroy your efforts to be seen. Acknowledging that Egley's response, in fact, could have been the reaction of someone charmed by a notion of your husbands writing would weaken your "outrage", false as it may be. The fact you didn't even ask what the response meant shows you had an agenda all along - why clarify the response when it's so much easier to make up lies about it.

You seem to be rather succesful. It's a shame you feel you have to stoop to these levels to get attention. Best of luck with your work. Please do try not to randomly accuse anyone else of imaginary things, would you?
