It is a power trio, comprised of Ren (guitars), Emily (vocals and bass), and William Steadman - 'Stead' to his friends (drums). In the past, there have been replacement bassists to help out (Brad was originally in the band, but left because of artistic differences. Kye played bass for one gig in order for Emily to concentrate on her singing. PlenOptiC do not seem to know their allegiance - throughout all the covers they have played, Red Hot Chili Peppers originally appeared to take prescedence, who were replaced next gig by Green Day - although the band are infamous for their relentless performaces of Otherside, which have at times seen Ren end up on the floor from playing his guitar too fast for anyone's comfort! In recent times PlenOptiC have branched out into writing their own music - again, their genre style is unclear. However, Ren shows off his talents in being PlenOptiC's lyricist (although Emily has had a stab at it at certain times, often yielding incomprehensible lyrics but...) and their material improves all the time. It must be said that PlenOptiC cannot be called a phenomenon in any senses of the word. They have nothing that essentially stands out in comparison to, for example, the frenetic dancing of The Young Ecuadorians, or the brutal in-your-faceishness of Zebras Bring Death. However, it must be said that they have a very committed fan base, with a smattering of potential and could be something very big if they put their heads together and set their minds to it. And good luck to them - in this turbulent world of music, they really are going to need it. Beat that. :p [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
