True Friends

The King had come to the forest
to vist the animals there,
He stayed at Yakutakay’s home
and had tea with Benji, the bear.

The feast had been a great success
all the forest animals came,
Wolfy Two brought along a guest
Genesa Wolfstrum was her name.

Yakutakay got an award
for a sincere change of his heart,
All the animals cheered the change
and felt they, too, had a small part.

Lenny, the fox, became so sad
when the celebration was over,
He walked away by himself
stretched out in a field of clover.

Rufus, the bumblebee flew o’er
the grassy place where Lenny lay,
He saw his bushy tail swishing
in a sad and pitiful way.

Rufus called out to his sad friend
“Lenny, please tell me what is wrong;
why are you here all by yourself
the forest is where you belong.”

Lenny did not answer Rufus
or lift his head from off the ground,
He just lay there swishing his tail
there could be heard no other sound.

Rufus was concerned for Lenny
but it was very plain to see,
He would not talk to friend, Rufus
twas alone he wanted to be.

Rufus flew back to the forest
straight to the house of wise Owl,
He buzzed by Owl’s upstairs window
saying, “Owl, please come with me now.”

“What is the problem, friend, Rufus?”
asked Owl as he came from his bed,
“I am not feeling very well
I have a bad pain in my head.”

“There is something wrong with Lenny
he’s gone off to be by himself,
He won’t respond in any way
what can I say, or do to help?”

Owl said, “I’m afraid I can’t go
with you to see Lenny, the fox,
Perhaps you could ask Wolfy Two
to take along his magic box.”

Owl said, “Rufus, I am sorry
but I must return to my bed,
I’m shaking with chills and fever
and have a bad ache in my head.”

Rufus bade Owl a “Please Get Well”
and flew to the home of Wolfy Two,
He called, “Wolfy, come to the door
I really need to talk to you.”

He told Wolfy about Lenny
asked him to bring his magic box,
“We’re his friends, we must find something
to cheer the heart of Lenny Fox.”

The two friends left the deep forest
and found Lenny in Meadow Green,
There he lay with his tail swishing
acting like his friends he’d not seen.

Wolfy set the box on the ground
plainly in front of Lenny’s nose,
He flipped the on-switch with his paw
from the top came a budding rose.

Music came from inside the box
and floated softly through the air,
The rose continued to unfold
its’ beauty was beyond compare.

What was the beautiful sweet smell
that was caressing Lenny’s nose?
His tail had stopped all its’ swishing
it was the magic of the rose.

He felt a new sense of sweet peace
for his friends he felt love and joy,
He knew there was something special,
something magical in the toy.

As the box did work its’ magic
Lenny arose from off the ground,
Looking in the eyes of Wolfy
he gave a smile, but made no sound.

Rufus was shocked to the core
What could he possibly say?
He had never seen magic work
in this most wonderful way.

At last Lenny spoke to his friends
He smiled; and this is what he said,
“I have felt sad and all alone
I could see nothing good ahead.”

“I’ve learned from this magical box
a wonderful lesson today,
When I felt so sad and alone
my friends came to the place I lay.”

“Friends, now I am no longer sad
I look at you now, and I see.
You are my very special friends
I do love you, and you love me.”
