Ladies Put On A Good Show Against Premier Opposition

Final score was not a true reflection of the game as the Doms more than matched the Premiership ladies team from Lincolnshire. In footballing stakes it was just that little bit more experience that the Doms would have got from this game that was the difference between the two teams. It was a great family atmosphere generated in a 15 million pound stadium that greeted the Doms, Grantham had the better exchanges in the first half as the Doms were 2-0 down after 25minutes but Kim Cartlidge met a fumbled ball from the keeper to make it 2-1. Then Lisa Broad hit an unstoppable shot into the Grantham net too level the scores to 2-2 at half time. The Doms came out the second half much as the first having a good share of the play but Grantham had that little bit more rub of the green, as the Doms keeper saved a brilliantly taken penalty the ball seemed to be pushed round the post but Nat Clarke the Grantham striker pounced on the loose ball to make it 3-2.The tide turned on the Doms a bit and Grantham made it 4-2 shortly after but the Doms hit back as captain Tracy Matthias curled a freekick into the top corner of the Grantham net to make the score 4-3.It seemed as the Doms could get back into the game but Grantham sealed the win in the end .Grantham manager couldn't pay enough complements to the Doms manager Trevor Morrell and his team Grantham manager commented that for such a young side the Doms were a credit to the club he said that the way they played football with a never quit attitude was a credit to the team. Every year we have gained promotion and its good to see teams like Stone Dominoes coming through and added all at Grantham wished all the ladies best of luck for this season.
