She runs to the child's side. She was 6, and had lives with the wolves for a few monthes. She craddles the younger child and held her close. She took her shaw off her sholders, and wrapped it around the Indian. Her human father (a white man) Had told her of these people, that they were ferce, and mean. But she no more paid attention to those words now than she did the worms in the earth. She rubbed her hands up and down the girls arms and said,

Don't worry. These wolves are very nice. I live with them, too. Don't be afraid...

She rocks back and forth with the girl, and tosses a pile of dry leaves into the fire, casting an eeire glow on the forest surronding them.
