Are residents aware that the Saturday morning surgery no longer exists?? They shut that down quietly didn't they? Are you also aware that we are now being "cared" for by Thames Doc?Each evening and all weekend. Recently on a Sunday morning a friend found to her distress that she had no balance at all.She was frightened that she may have been having a stroke. Her husband telephoned for a doctor and was allowed to speak to a Thames Doc representative, he listened to her husband (not her!) and said that a prescription would be phoned through to Safeways in East Grinstead in a couple of hours.
On the Monday her husband phoned the surgery and their doctor came out at lunch time, he came and did all the tests to ascertain whether or not she had had a stroke!!! Fortunately she had not. However given that the quicker patients suffering a stroke are treated the better their outcome. Had it been a stroke it would have been about 30 hours before she was seen by a doctor. The PCT "proudly " announced that they were stopping Saturday surgery to save money-lives it seems are secondary. Perhaps the money that was spent on the new all singing all dancing telephone system could have paid for the surgery to remain open?? Why can't we have a nearer out of hours covering company?? Perhaps one that knows the area.
People should start asking questions next time it might be you or yours.
