On one dark stormy night in the middle of January the elderly man was hunched over on his walking stick dreaming about the old days when he was a young warrior in Dereth, when suddenly he was approached by a tall man wearing a long black overcoat. The tall mysterious man with the unseen face peered down and the warrior wearily asked, "have you come for my life?" The dark figure made no sound, but raised one arm slowly towards the old man. A sound came on the wind wispering... "your life or your soul choose as you will", lightning forked in the sky striking the ground around old campaigner. The warrior cowered and said nothing as he stumbled backwards into a massive oak tree. Finding he could back no further, the warrior raised his hands to shield his face and saw that the man that had been standing there was no longer there but he felt anew he looked at his hands and all the old scar's of age and war were gone. He realized he had been give a second chance ,but at what cost?!?! He left this area wandering aimlessly muttering to himself "Why, To what end and what is the cost?" A sudden dred filled him as if he knew that his new found youth and strength meant a new war was developing in Dereth. Who gave him this gift, and what was his role in the coming battle? He knew he must find the answers to these questions but first he had to prepare himself for the upcoming war as he knew that he would be needed. He slowly started to work his way towards home, hoping that his old armour would still be servicable. While hiking his way northward he noticed that even the land had changed. Towns were constructing large walls to protect their homes, and farmers were salvaging what they could from their crops. Knowing he needed to defend these helpless souls, he ran home to find his armor where he had left it in it secret place in the yard. He got it out to find it old and half destroyed, but some nagging feeling in the back of his head told him to put it on. He put it on and it instantly became new, shining like the sun and stronger than any other metal ever made, and light as a feather. He then travelled to his old friend's house to see if the same oddities had happened to him. As he neared his friend's yard he grew suspicious and slowed his pace. He could hear weapons being tinked and strange noises that couldn't possibly be coming from humans. He sneaked up to the fence, looked over and gasped..there before him cloaked in dark sinnester looking robes with hollow faces hovering around his friend who was hanging like a puppet on a string. Noticing his friends armor was, as his own, bright shiney as it had been renewed with a life force strong in its intensity. His friend, however much to his dismay, had the look of shear terror and forbidding doom masked on his face. Frozen by his own fear, he realize what the tinking and metallic noises where, it was coming from a perticular nasty looking weapon scraping and lightly tapping on his friends armor, weilded by the largest of his captures. Knowing at that moment, he had little or no time to react, his impulsive warring nature over came good judgement, with nostrils flaring and a taste of copper in his mouth he..... ran into the middle of the group with his sword drawn and his heart sit to do what was needed to save his friend. He slashed at the first and largest in the group removing his armor holding the sword and did a spin with his sword cutting him in half. He then turned to see the other too, who were no longer surprised, and instantly reliazed this was going to be a horrible battle. His friend, who had been release from the string, regained his own sword and was beside his friend, men-at-armors once again. They ready'd themselves to fight this to monster's when suddenly an arrow came flying from over the hill landing between the to men and monsters and a fire arc came flying over as well. Five others of the friends came over the hill..........
In a brief instant, time stood still the seconds turned to hours, our warrior mentally flashed back to a time of old, as of a brigade of mercenary warriors harden by many battle fields littered with fallen commrades both dead and dying. Most, not knowing why they were fighting and dying other than, simply, as a warring nation, fighting is what they did and the life and death trials were just a by-product of how they lived their lives. They lived to hear his battle cry resonanting across the battefield indicating the "THE BATTLE IS OURS FOR THE TAKING FIGHT ON MY BREATHERN IN ARMS AND YOU WILL TASTE THE SWEETNESS OF VICTORY". Our warrior snapped back in an instant, on hearing his voice bellowing that battlecry of old. A smile crease his lips as he recognized the five that now stood with him as some of his most trusted and loyal field commanders, that had been rallied by his all to familiar battle cry.. His sense of good fortune was short lived, as he soon realized that good fortune had also smiled on the evil darkness that now surround the seven warriors. As he wiped the sweat from his eyes, the clarity of what he saw shook him to the core and the hair on the back of his neck stood at attention as he look to the horizan and as far a he could see was the hills and valleys being consumed with a mass of undulating crawling blackness of pure evil coming down to .......
