Subject: Website, forums and photoshop :)

Greetings House of Fire from the afterlife :) I have been looking through your website and forums and I must say they have come along nicely since my characters departed the land of Dereth.
From some posts I have read here is a little input for you. If you wanted to change the forum bb to one with smilies etc one option is to take ezboard. However I don't like ezboards; they are slow featureless pap imo :)if however that was your thing;

http://www.ezboard.com/ezcommunity/index.html

heres a list of prices. You wouldn't exceed the base 10, 000 hits p/m so it would cost you $54 per year to do this.

My SW:G guild have moved through various forums (ezboard and yabb included) but the best ones we have found are phpBB. The boards are free and open source but you need a webhost that has php and mySQL enabled and you'd have to play with them to set them up exactly how you'd like (quite intuitive tho). The advantage of this is that you could also move the site from these geocities ones and hence lose the ad's and dropdown etc. I'm not sure what webhost we're using but it worked out cheapest for our enourmous bandwidth consumption. I'll find out if ya drop me a line.

Photoshop 7: looks like you got it sorted Kal, but you'd just have to create a new image set baqckground to transparent on the options and work from there (copy and drop the pic in and either use the magic wand to select and delete the offending area or the erasor tool. Alternatively build the text etc direct into the new file). Goto Save for web, ensure the preserve transparency box is ticked and no dither selected and save the file (reducing the number of colours in the Gif can drop image size massively without affecting the look of the pic.

lo Fire :) hope you and family are doing well say Hi for me. Hehehe, I'm afraid I have too much on my plate to return to ac just yet. My website for the PA is a support site: effectively a business directory or yellow pages for the crafters, merchants and service providers of our Fair PA city. If ya fancied checking it out you can go here;

http://arcc.aartanridge.org.uk

There are links from the site to the main pages (which are going to be redesigned soon) lol mine are on their third incarnation already :) as well as to the Aartan Ridge Star our newspaper (interesting reading 4 editions on that site) and the PHP Forums we're using (another lol thats the 4th BB for the PA since it formed in january, but we're settled now and won't be moving).

Just waiting for the game to launch really. We're quite organised so should be well set for when the game comes out but you can find everything out from the various sites and boards if your interested. Oh yeah, I'm running for Industrial Representative on the council but we're not voting for the council positions until launch.
