Subject: oil consumption cause?

The problem is supposed to be that the piston rings don't bed in properly, allowing oil to get past the rings.
(Synthetic oil is so good that virtually no wear occurs, and the rings don't bed in, running in oil allows wear. It is necessary for some wear to occur to get the rings and bores to match perfectly)

The advice from someone who claims to know what they are talking about, was to "drive it like you have stolen it" for the first few thousand miles , then put synthetic oil in, and drive normally.

Unfortunately this only helps from new.

It might be worth asking an engine reconditioning firm (a member of FER, the federation od engine reconditioners) for advice, as they are engineers, not the salesmen/spokesman you will get when trying to talk to Vauxhall.

As a comparison on oil consumption my '96 Mondeo TD has done 96000 miles, I occasionally might check the oil if I can be bothered, but as I never have to put any in between services I don't really worry about it.

John (crossing Zafira D off my wish list and wondering what to buy instead. Not sure if I can stand the embarrasment of a Multipla..)
