I had a problem like this, turned out to be the leak off pipes to the injectors ( drawing air ) If fuel filter was removed after car had been sitting over night, there was hardly any fuel in there. When it eventually started, it would be fine for the rest of the day ( Only ocurred after sitting for a while ) Vauxhall fleeced me for a engine management fault check & a hrs labour & the rubber pipes which cost about £90.00, not bad considering the rubber pipes cost £8.00 of that :-/
