Thirroul officials have decided to allocate some of their $15,000 Country Cup purse towards beefing up security levels at the club in the wake of Friday nights drama in Lithgow. The Butchers fear they are on the brink of losing this top-line player unless something drastic can be done to repair his fragile state of mind. Thirrouls committee, still reeling from the shock retirement of star pre-season signing Matt Roodenrys, have begun the search for a Player Safety Consultant.
Phil Smith, one of the main players in the Sydney security industry, has expressed interest in the position. Smith is known to have close ties with Butchers coach Brett Jones and is expected meet with officials today. The burly Smith has been quoted as saying, "None of this would have happened on my watch!! From now on anyone who tries to harm the boys will have some major #@*^%$ dramas!!".
To other news, it remains to be seen whether or not inspirational Thirroul stalwart Paul Air has officially come out of retirement. The tough-as-nails Air, who was travelling with the Butchers in his role as assistant coach, was an 11th hour inclusion in the 17-man squad for Saturdays final when winger Chris "Tango" Timmins withdrew with injury 20 minutes before kick-off.
