Subject: Steph's Kids Lessons.

Today my schedule started at 2pm with Linsey.
Linsey is riding her horse The Sooner The Better. Steph wants her to learn the basics like balance. I started her out in a saddle to work on her balance before we had her ride bareback!! She did great we just started with walking and a little bit of trotting just to warm up The Sooner The Better. After that I put her on a lunge line and continued to work on rising trot making sure her back was straight and her shoulders were back. I told her to think of her feet and shoulders as parallel to the floor. It worked. After we did that for a bit I had her canter on the lunge line still remembering to stay balanced. She did great!! Next lesson we'll work more on balance again and maybe try it without a saddle!! Great Job Linsey

Next one to ride was Lacey She'll be riding Fortissimo on Fridays. Steph wants her to learn the basics. So our first lesson started with just walking to get the feel of the horse. After Lacey had the hang of that we picked up a trot and worked on rising trot. We didn't worry to much about the right diagonal we just wanted to work on balance tonight. We did circles and change of direction on the diagonal. I told Lacey the same thing as Linsey; remember to keep your feet parallel to the floor and shoulders square and again parallel to the floor. After Lacey was able to stay balanced while doing the rising trot we worked on some sitting trot. There were a few almost falls but she hung on and stayed on!!! After that we just did some more rising trot and then cooled our Fortissimo. Good lesson, next lesson we'll work on balance again and sitting trot. Maybe we'll do some cantering.

Next up is Erick on Sweet Smell. We're going to work on bareback tonight. Erick already has the balance to start working without the saddle. We just started with walking and had no problems. Then we started to do the sitting trot. Had a little more trouble keeping our balance and almost fell off but Sweet Smell is a sweety and came back to walk without Erick asking. Erick caught his balance again and we tried trotting again. No problems. Erick wanted to try cantering but I thought a near fall was enough for one day so we didn't canter but I had a saddle that he could use so we put that on Sweet Smell and let him have a little canter then I tacked up Patty and we went out on a little hack to cool Sweet Smell out. Good lesson. Next week we'll work on more balancing without the saddle and maybe cantering bareback.

5:00 is Lisa's turn. On Friday's we're just training Baby Blues so we worked on some in hand stuff. Baby is so cute! So we worked on getting Baby Blues to trust Lisa and listening to her voice and hand signals. They work well together. They're going to make a great team. Great job. Next week we'll work on continuing to work with voice comands.

6:00 is MeShelle's time with me and Firewind Storm. Today we worked on balance for the first half and the second half was spent on collection. For balance I had MeShelle ride with no stirrups at a sitting trot. After she had the hang of that I had her ride a rising trot without stirrups. She did great. Once she was comfortable I had her try a little canter. No problems. Next we worked on collection. That we had a little more trouble. We only worked at a trot for the collection. Harder to do at a canter. Great lesson. Next week we'll work on some more collection and some simple dressage moves.

7:00(my last lesson of the day) is Adam and Princess. Today we worked on some bareback work. I had Adam warm up in the saddle then we took it off and had him start at the walk then moved on to the trot. I had him on a lunge line so he didn't have to worry about steering while trying to keep his balance. We just worked on sitting trot for now. We had a little fall but he got right back up on her and went back to work. Working harder to stay on. After a bit he had the idea so I let him go around the arena without the lunge line at a trot to finish off the lesson. Good job. Next lesson we'll work some more on bareback work and maybe some collection.

Great job guys. I want everyone to be practicing what they've learned!!! :) See you all Thursday!!
