Subject: Tow events in March

Gentlemen and Your Ladies,

There are two events slated for March. On the 4th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm there will be a living history at the Forte Middle School in Azle. They are working on insurance for us to carry our muskets, and so bring them out.

For the 19th, we have been invited to attend the celebration of General Patrick Cleburne's birthday at the Caddo Street Grill in Cleburne. Festivities are slated to occur from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

We will have a marker dedication on April 16th for Sgt. Ben Hatch's ancestor. Sgt Hatch, please correct me if I am wrong about the date. May 14 there will be a dedication of a Southern Cross of Honor at the grave of Pvt. George W. Woodall, Co. G, 14th Texas Cavalry outside of Frederick, Oklahoma. Sgt. Hastings, we need to set a date to make a trip and map out particulars.

Everyone please take a look at your calenders and see what dates might work best to have a muster and drill. We offer a very unique choreography folks, and need to get it nailed down and practiced flawlessly. You all do the finest job already, but it is a chance for us to meet in uniform and operate as the Grays without waiting in the long spells between events to do so.

I am sure that everyone knows of the chaos currently engulfing the SCV. The Grays were founded with the intent to function without the introduction of politics, and to this date folks you have done that very well. Our purpose is to Honor and Serve, and among the many other examples we have demonstrated to other heritage organizations on how to do things right, this is one that is underscored as vital by recent events. My point is that I appreciate each and every one of you for the success we in the Grays enjoy. We all come together from our different lives and environments in the cause of adhering to our motto; we exist for the exaltaion and honor of our ancestors, and not of ourselves. I grew up having three sisters, me being the only male. In you, gentlemen, I have a whole passle of brothers, and I hold each of you as a treasure and an honor to call so. I remain your servant; I'll assist in any need, and will defend your good name in every avenue.

You gentlemen take care, and may God speed the arrival of the time that finds us in ranks together again.

Your Most Obedient Servant,

Lt. Preston Furlow
