After Action Report
Beaumont Ranch, Grandview, TX
19, 20, & 21 March, 2004

I have been requested by the Commander, OCG #1, to provide an after action report, and it follows:

Kudos! And a heartfelt thank you to all who came and participated in the 165th New York Regiment’s re-enactment. It was not only beautiful, but a treat for all who attended. The Zouave uniforms definitely stood out on the battlefield. It was just totally awesome! We extend out thanks! to the owner’s and staff of Beaumont Ranch, Grandview, Texas, for hosting such a wonderful and fun event. The meals were delicious and worth every penny of the cost. Again, our thanks for

I must say our recruiting efforts definitely paid off! We not only recruited six new members into the ranks of the OCG, we were also able to refer approximately seven new members to the ranks of the 9th Texas Infantry, Red River Batallion, our fraternal organization. We also now have a bivouac set up in Waco, and our second OCG chapter! Wow! We are growing by leaps and bounds.

The Ladies Society has been approached, and is considering a request from a Social Studies educator in Rock Wall School District, to provide and teach a living history class to approximately 150 students. No definite details have been finalized as of this date. But more details will follow in the near future.

Discussions in the recruiting booth, involved a myriad of topics. The number one issue that emerged was the need for cleanup of Blackland Cemetary. There are a number of Confederate veterans interred there and the disrepair and lack of maintenance are appalling. It will require major effort to clean up this cemetery. We are brainstorming ways to get this done. We are discussing this as a major spring project to fulfill our commitment to complete a yearly community service project. More details on this will follow as well. If you are aware of a cemetery needing maintenance/repairs please forward the information to Mr. Randy Arrick.

The following is a list of recruits who are requesting membership in the OCG Chapter:

John D. Wells Kris Bussell
Charles Mullen John W. Aaron
Justin Harris
Kevin Dally

We now have a drummer and a piper for our dedications, schedules permitting. It appears that we have a very busy year ahead of us. We must make a strong concerted effort to recruit, recruit, recruit. We also have the need to network and support our members, through equipment loans, ridesharing and logistical planning of our major events. Attention to detail is everything in our work.

Honor & Serve!
Your Obedient Servant,
Judy A. Bennett, Chair
OCGLS
