Subject: 2nd Attack on Blackland cemetery

Greetings!

Saturday was another highly rewarding day at Blackland cemetery. Besides clearing out over twice as much brush as we did the first attempt, we found 7 more graves that were previously covered in overgrowth! It's coming along, folks!

This time we had four chainsaws. Adjutant Tom and Mrs. Judy Bennett brought their Husqvarna riding mower. They, Commander Arrick and Sgt. Dan Hastings pretty much nuked half the cemetery's overgrowth with it! I couldn't believe how much of the earth's surface you can now actually see.

Cpl. Ben Hatch, Pvt. Jon Aaron, Color Sgt. Steve Monroe, Adjutant Bennett and I manned the chainsaws, and I think we're getting pretty derned good at using them, fellows! Jon, this was a black sash event. Seems to me that you are one event away now from getting yours!

Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Monroe brought enough food to fatten us all, and ladies it was sure good! We thank you, and our stomachs thank you!! Good food and good company go a long way to sweeten the day, and we really appreciate you!

We had two citizens from the area stop in and take a look at what we've been doing. Folks, they were impressed not only with what we are doing but with the fact that we are actually out there doing it because we want to. They thanked us for our efforts, and no doubt left with the knowledge that Southern Honor and conscience of duty have not completely died off.

I thank each and every one of you who came out this weekend. You all did a fantastic job out there, and I deeply appreciate it! We'll look to July for our next effort and set it as we can.

YOS,

2nd LT. Preston Furlow
