Subject: Confederate Heroes Day & Dedication at Cool Springs

Honorable Gentlemen of the Order of Confederate Gray:

Once again, by your presence, you have come to the aid and assistance of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, as we jointly celebrated Texas Confederate Heroes Day, and also paid tribute to a fallen Confederate hero, Pvt. William P. Watson, of the 7th Alabama Infantry this past Sunday, at Cool Springs Cemetery.

Mere words seem inadequate to express the depth of feeling, the solemnity of the occasion, and the gratitude expressed to our Confederate ancestors, as exhibited by the Grays in your very moving and meaningful ceremony. It was a humbling, yet rewarding experience, as we all joined together to honor our Confederate ancestors. I could almost sense Pvt. Watkins looking down on the proceedings and thanking us, most specifically the Grays, for our tribute to him and all Confederates who served so honorably and so well.

The professionalism and the courtly, military bearing of the Grays was a joy to behold, as they performed their ceremony honoring our Confederate dead. The dedication of all members of the Grays, who often travel long distances on weekends, is a testimony to their spirit and their devotion to duty.

No matter what the distance traveled may be, or the harshness of the weather, the Grays can always be counted on to "rally 'round the colors" and render their service to the Confederacy. Such dedication and devotion to duty is a rare quality in this day and time.

On behalf of the members of District IV, United Daughters of the Confederacy, our heartfelt thanks go out to all of you for your assistance, both for the marker dedication, and for the Texas Confederate Heroes Day ceremony. Your presence, as always, made it a moving and memorable experience for all in attendance.
