Subject: Dido After Action Report

Greetings all: sorry for the tardiness of this report. Been having some technological challenges with this computer.

So! Sunday, April 24th saw the Confederate Grays standing with Robert E. Lee Camp #239 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, to dedicate a new flagpole in Dido Cemetery. This pole was the inspiration of Robt E. Lee Camp, and will bear the Confederate First National colors year round except in April, when it will be replaced by the Battle Flag.
R. E. Lee Camp invited the Grays to participate in the ceremony at the cemetery, and we responded in our unique and solemn way.
Camp Commander K.B. Spencer spoke during the ceremony, as did Johnny Wells, 1st Lt. Commander.
Col. Wayne Hindman was the Honor Guard commander, and had the honor of raising the Battle Flag.
Johnny Wells, David Moore, Dennis Hudgens, and Barry Bentle formed the SCV part of the honor guard, and Randy Arrick (OCG Commander), Lt. Preston Furlow, Paul Martin, and John Aaron represented the Confederate Grays.
Sgt. Ben Hatch served as Sergeant of the Guard on this occaision.
After marching to our station, Col Hindman lowered the flag to half-mast. A rifle salute to the fallen Confederates buried there followed. The flag was then raised again to the top of the staff, and a 3-volley rifle salute rendered the honors to the Confederate battle colors so revered by the soldiers.
It was a great ceremony, that saw some excellent cooperation and comraderie between Southern patriots that will hopefully become the norm for the future.
Paul Martin was awarded his Black Sash at this event, which acknowledges the services of this steady soldier. His call to duty has taken him from standing in the cold rain to entertaining at high-brow dinner parties. Well Done, Paul!
In closing let me thank all who attended for the priviledge of allowing me to perform as Sergeant of the Guard for this important ceremony. It will be an unforgettable experience.
Also lets not forget...I'm going to be checking periodically back at Dido to make sure that nothing is amiss with what should be; knowwhatImean???

Sgt. Ben Hatch
