Gentlemen and Your Ladies,

Get seated good, because this is going to be a long one.
First off, my deepest appreciation goes out to the folks that attended the dedication at Wills Point. Sgt. Looney, I could not say it better myself. I can only add my personal gratitude to you, and to Sgt. David Weaver, Jim Wright, Paul Martin (three more and you get your black sash!), Cpl. Ben Hatch, 1st Sgt. Tom McDonough, Tom Stuart,
Sgt. Major David Dunn, Color Cpl. Bruce Pastusek, Jim Benton, Sgt. Dan Hastings, and Gary Whitfield.
Then we have Beaumont Ranch, where Commander Randy Arrick, Sgt. Dan Hastings, Adjutant Tom Bennet and his lovely wife Judy held the fort at the recruitment booth. If anyone else stood a stint there, please forgive me for the ommission. Your efforts paid off greatly, for 6 more Southern souls found a home with us, and a new Bivuoac will be started in Waco thanks to Mr. Joe Walker! LEt me introduce and welcome to the Order of Confederate Gray Kevin Dally, Joe Walker, Justin Harris who performed the terrific job as drummer for the 9th Texas this weekend ands for the ceremony I will speak of later, Kris Bussell who is our regimental piper! That's right, boys, the Grays have a man of the bagpipes offering his services and talents to the honor and service of our fallen Southern patriots! Also, I am proud to introduce Johnyy Wells, Charles Mullens, and John Aaron. Welcome, Gentlemen!!!!!
We held a ceremony at Beaumont Ranch this last weekend, in which we awarded Ms. Kathey Kelly Hunt the Honor and Serve Award. This young lady has spent tremendous time and effort in organizing the reenactment at the Confederate Reunion Grounds in Mexia, the reenactment in Kaufman, and has posted a website upon which is registered the names of the Confederate Veterans buried in Kaufman county. She was quite unexpectant of this , and was VERY impressed. Thank you each and every one that assisted in this ceremony. We turned some heads and got some attention, gentlemen! Thank you!!!
And now, here's the work part. Commander Arrick mentioned to me the condition of the Blackland cemetery in Kaufman county. The following Monday, he sent me pictures of it. Folks, I have NEVER seen a cemetery in such deplorable shape. I would not have known it for anything more than a thicket if it were not for the few headstones that are still sticking up. I'm seriuos, it's awful. If there was ever a call for we as the Grays to do our duty, this definately qualifies! I would like to set the date for our first attempt to restore this cemetery for the 2nd weekend in May. For all that can make it, great!! For those that cannot, I'm sure that it will take more than one weekend to get it done. Anyone that has gas-powered weedeaters or chainsaws, and even a chipper-shredder, please bring it. Wear snake-protection at least until the ground is "secured", including shotguns and side arms loaded with rat shot if you please.
I will procure vittles, in the way of BBQ and such for those who come on out. Just please let me know if you can make it. We will raise the colors, clean the cemetery, and have a derned fine meal in the process.
Please contact me at your convenience.

YOS,

2nd Lt. Preston Furlow
