Gentlemen and Your Ladies,

I have attended many Grays events since I joined, and have never ceased to be impressed by the performance of you in each of them. Friday, July 2nd surpassed them all in my mind. Perhaps it is because we were doing this for a friend, a brother that Our Almighty Father called home. Perhaps it was the weight of the solemnity that was present and added to it's impact. Whatever the reasons, I was and am proud and honored beyond proper description to stand beside my brothers in the OCG and 9th Texas Infantry in fulfilling our obligation to Honor and Serve.

As I said at the funeral, I did not know Bobby personally, but I know you. I know that he was a man of the same unique and fine character that each of you are, and that saying goodbye to another Southron patriot hit me pretty derned hard.

Rest assured that the reason we will no longer see him at our firesides is because he is now at the fireside of Forrest, Jackson, and Lee. He is in unimaginable Glory, shoulder to shoulder with those men that he and we so admire. Gentlemen, in God's own time we shall see him again. I pray that the comfort and reassurance of this fact be fast in coming to Ms. Howell, her children, his family by blood and marriage and we, his family by the bonds of the Old South.

Again, thank you each and every one for a fantastic job.

YOS,

2nd Lt. Preston Furlow
