This past sunday,in McKinney, the ORDER OF CONFEDERATE GRAY supported the United Daughters of the Confederacy in their celebration of Texas Confederate Heroes Day.We {the Grays}had an ecellent turnout, with between 15-20 Grays supporting this event. The event, hosted by district 4,UDC,was a two part celebration, which begain at the dulaney residence, inthe Mckinney historical district, just off the edge of downtown. This was the gathering place for both the Grays and attendees of the event. The ladies of the UDC provided delicious snacks inside the Delaney residence for those in attendance. The Grays posted Guards in front of the residence, untilthe event began. At approx 1:30 the Grays Color Guard marched around the corner to the Chapel on Chesnut square for the opening services. The honor guard followed close behind, and formed themselves at the entrance to the chapel. The Color Guard posted the colors, and the ceremony began. The honor guard then moved to Pecan Grove Cem to prepare for the finalceremony there.Following the end of services in the chapel, the attendees and the Grays Color Guard adjoined to pecan grove,at the site of the Confederate Memorial, where the colors were once again posted. When all had assembled, members of the UDC conducted a brief ceremony. As part of that ceremony, the names of 20 Texas Confederate Veterans buried at pecan grove ,picked at random, were read by Bob Looney. As each name was read,a member of the Graysanswered"HERE"! following this reading, members of the Grays honor guard fired three crisp volleys.
