I heartily echo the sentiments expressed by David Dunn and Bob Looney concerning Confederate Heroes Day and our participation there. Our volleys were very crisp and we did wonderful honor to our ancestors. We also had a very special moment after the official ceremonies had been concluded while honoring the 9th Texas Infantry veterans buried in Pecan Grove Cemetery. Chaplin Leonard Newman said a few words at each 9th Texas veteran's gravesite and we then fired a volley at each of their gravesites. While honoring the ancestor of Bob Looney, Preston Furlow stepped forward and presented his Polk flag to Bob in honor of Bob's ancestor, 1st Lieut. J.M. Benge, Co I, 9th Texas Infantry. Gentlemen, that is comradeship that must be experienced to be truly appreciated. My personal thanks to Preston for his very gracious gesture to a compatriot. Preston will do to ride the river with.
