I have to agree with cox. While it doesn't seem very "artsy" or whatever, the thing that pushes most bands to be good is so they can be tighter, more original, and write better music than anybody else. That is what will drive a band. Being in a band, I know the reason we work so hard is because of local competition. While the competition doesn't have to be nasty or mean, it can still be "friendly" competition, if you will.
