As a poet, I have written way to many poems about hate, death, sin, pain, self image, toture, and other things that socciety would label unhealthy to even think of, how ever i also want to be surounded by my own art, how can i be surounded with out being unhealthy? It is an easy two step proces, number one relize that NO ART IS UN-HEALTHY!!!!!art isnt a medicine, or food, or even candy, art is a hobby, a life style, and ultamently a way to express yourself. By saying your work is un healthy you are destroying your hopes and dreams and puting yourself in a box, saying you will only write if i can do it happily, or i can only draw if i dont get angry.
the second step is a lilte more difficult, you will get mad at me for saying this becuase you will either go to sleep knowing you youre sleep comes before art, or you will wake up early tomorrow mourning and not know what sleep is, but trust me once you get started you wont know how you lived with out it, there are three litle pages called mourning pages. write three pages of long hand sentances discribing the preier day. when youre done, put them in a place you wont look ever again, what you are doing is getting all those negitive things out of youre body, and if you look at them again you will put them right back in.
Now I personally found this last part on my own, set the standered. start a tradeitoin, and read poetry, then go create! if you set a standerd, you set up boundries of what you dont want to say, and what you do, also dont be afraid to break those rules. As for the traditoin it really sets the mood, when i walk into a starbucks, i want to talk to random strangers, i went to newzealand in the sumer of 2002 and we would go into starbucks and talk to strangers, now when i smell the coffe, or see the lady in the circle something in the back of my brain says time to go talk to some one new. now imagine if youre brain jump started you and told you it was time to create, you wouldnt be racking youre brain now would you? before i perform i tell the entire cast that they are cooler then my, one by one i look them in the eye and say they are cooler then me, low self esteem? No, i just want to tell my brain it is time to perform. Now that youre mind is ready to go, why should you stop and read poetry? As an artist we want our art to be more then our outlook on life, we want it to be well rounded, so if we allow other people into our minds then we really will be more aware of the other people who will enjoy this.
