TBL NEWS 6/26/03
by the Associated Press

The biggest story in TBL lately has been the overwhelming rumors of contraction. The rising salaries of TBL players will make it impossible for the league to continue carrying three teams. TBL Commish Matt Douglas had this to say, "The team that does not make the playoffs this season will most likely be contracted." This narrows it down to the AL and FL since the NL has already clinched and has been economically responsible. This puts AL player and FL owner Sean Moroney in a tough spot "I am more committed to TBL as an owner, I know I have put my team in a tough position spending overwhelming amounts of money on players like Greg Douglas. But I will do whatever is neccessary to keep the FL afloat, whether it means trading or releasing big salary, or even if it comes to selling my beloved 78, I will do whatever is in my power to keep the FL in the wet side of Belford for many years to come."
This makes it seem as though the AL is the most likely candidate to be contracted. After losing their second straight Game 7 in the TBL Championship, AL GM and Manager Chris Niesz decided to rebuild with younger players. So the rebuilding process compounded with the AL's injury woes have made the AL seen least likely to make the playoffs and most likely to be contracted.
In a candid interview AL owner Alex "Salami Boy" Douglas has this to say, "I have owned the AL for many years, first I had to pay for the new ballpark and move the team out of Morford Park because people were spitting and tearing up my grass and my lawn was getting ruined. Then I had the three highest paid players in the game all on the same team with Gregory, Matty, and Chrissy for 3 seasons, which hurt the wallet. I still paid out the big bucks to Kev and Cresci last year and we still couldn't win the big one last season. Now there telling me I will have to sell my boat to keep the team in Belford, thats not happening, I love that boat more than salami. If I have to shell out more money, I'd rather see the team fold unless somebody wants to buy the team."
As of right now there is only one potential buyer and that is Jake O'Conner but he would violate the hardline "no blacks in TBL" policy. So as of right now TBL faces the tough reality of contraction and the FL and AL both are not safe.
