Found a side of five on the Monday before Thanksgiving while tracking my buck. No chews, but some leaf stains and a little weathered. Likely last years. (thanks Tom!) Then found a fresh side of five on the Sun after Christmas while grouse hunting. This gave me the fever so I've been getting out 2-3 times a week since. Today, finally something to show for it. Only a side of two, but its unique. A two+ inch brow tine on a 19" main beam. It looks like it stood very tall and is fairly heavy, the pedicle area measures 1 1/4" across. I recently read that you can determine age by measuring the shed antler below the buhr at the point where it came off the pedicle. Hear is what they said.

"A bucks first set of antlers will measure 11/16"- 13/16" across the pedical and increase 1/4" per year give or take 1/16". I have found this to be extreemly accurate with most antlers measuring on 1/4" increments. thus an antler having a pedical diameter of 1" is 2 1/2 years old. 1 1/4" is 3 1/2 years old ......... After about 4 1/2 yrs. it looses accuracy."

Can anyone verify if there is anything to this? Any WI shed hunters having any luck yet?
