Subject: I Strove with None by W S Landor (listen online)

Poet and prose writer and lifelong rebel Walter Savage Landor 1775 - 1864 lived much of his life in exile in Europe to avoid his detractors. His outspokenness got him in to all sorts of trouble from school onwards . This very enjoyable qiute lyrical worldly wise little piece written by him at the age of seventy five would indicate a resignation to fate as advancing age would have diminished his energy to confront lifes challenges..

Heres the link to the page where you can listen to this and many other classic poems set to music...

I Strove with None

I strove with none, for none was worth my strife.
Nature I loved and, next to Nature, Art:
I warm'd both hands before the fire of life;
It sinks, and I am ready to depart
