I have played the game for 20 years. I guess I have no patience for ineptitude. It is just my most fervent belief that the less rules are used, the more the DM's and the Player's visions are allowed to spring forth from their heart of their creativity.

In days of old, if I had hit someone in the face with a bone, it might have felt right for Vince to say, "He catches it with his teeth..." (as an example) This is ad-libbing, it is playing off of one person and going with the mutual feelings that exist in the game, letting our most innocent desires for fun dictate which direction the game will take, not relying on some half baked rule to "inspire" us to better role play.

The minute this form of gimmicky nonsense enters the game, the spirit of the game is lost, though it may be a subtle thing to see. Of course, it depends on the style of game you wish to play. Do you want to play a game that is more free form and likely to take unexpected turns due to role playing? Or do you wish to play a game that is mechanical and numbers heavy?
