I know I have harped on this, but I only harp on it because no one understands what I am saying. Let me put it the best way I know how:
When Vince bought his house, he said repeatedly, "I had to fight for this house." I (we) had to fight for Oard, too, to bring it into existence. Vince can reasonably expect his house to be a haven, a safe place, a place where evil will not come in if he does not want it to come in. It is a place where he can paint the walls however he wants, he can hang drapes and buy furniture. And there will be other challenges for him that have nothing to do with his house, and this will be enough to motivate him for future adventures.
Oard was my house. I did not ask for black spires. I did not ask for undead giraffes. I did not ask for ghosts floating through the city. I did not ask for only evil men to come and offer their alliances with me. I did not ask for plots against my life. This is why I feel defeated. It is as if someone came into my house and painted my walls black without my permission, then said, "The black is permanent. Get over it."
Sorry. This is just the way I feel. It may be unreasonable. It may not be like real life. But, let's face it, you guys, the game is about fantasy! and nothing we ever do has any hint of reality. When was the last time anyone of us hit someone in a tavern? Smote a dragon with a sword? Cast a spell? Can't I have my fantasy world? It seems that I cannot. That is fine. I just won't play. Do you understand?
