Hi,

I have 3 Sharpeis, one I them I inherited in September when my mother passed away. She took her pei, Chelsea, to the Vet continuiously for her skin problems. She was given steriod shots, baths, pills and food supplements and the conditions didn't worsen but didn't heal all the way. I don't have the money to take her to the Vet, since I have 5 dogs, 3 peis, 2 Cane Corsos, and can't afford all that treatment. When I brought her home to NJ from Va she did have some fleas which worsen the skin problem. The problem she has with her skin, looks to me, like poision oak, ivy, etc. she has fluid filled blisters all over her, especially her legs and chest. I gave her a bath right away to get rid of the fleas and then over a process of feeding her properly (I use Maximum Nutrition puppy food, blue and silver bag even though she is 5). And I mix it with Pedigree can, choice cuts. I also had problems with her smelling(due to excessive oily skin) and didn't experience this with my other dogs so I bought Hertz medicated and started using it on her weekly. It really helped, but the blisters came back again when I don't bathe her as often as she needs.
This is a genetic disorder and will not totally go away but you can soothe your dog's skin and the blisters will almost go away. I also recently read about using Murphy's oil soap, yep sounds funny, but I did last night and they all look great! Their coats are shiny, soft and they smell fantastic. I also feed her from the table, she loves certain veggies and her appetite has greatly increased since she has been here, she was a very picky eater and would go days without eating until she got here!
I hope these suggestions help you and good luck, let me know how things work out.
Kay
