Hi,
Did you find your Pei? I am so sorry to hear that your girl ran away.
I have 3 Sharpeis and one of them thinks the grass is greener on the other side of the fence! We have chased after her many times after digging out of our chain linked fence. I really don't think she would ever come back. She sits and looks and looks and it seems like she is dreaming of leaving us in hopes of a better home or more treats or more excitement!
We invested in a 6 foot solid vinyl fence last year and I have only caught her once trying to get out, I had to grab her by the tail, because that is all that was left on this side, and I pulled her back through.
Her personality doesn't say much for her actions. She is a very quiet pei with no interest in anyone or anything, she is what I call stand-offish. She will play with the other dogs, on her terms, and when she feels like she wants to.
I watch her lay across the back of the couch looking out the front window and she just looks and looks and when another animal is present she goes nuts! She has even chewed up the window sill in hopes that it would go away so she could leave!
We have to watch her very carefully because one minute she will be laying on the driveway and the next she is looking for an escape route. We have been so unnerved about this that all of us have had dreams of her running away and getting hit by and car. My husband just woke up the other night, very upset, and he told me he had had a dream about her getting out. He had a hard time going back to sleep. He seems to think she would come back, if she got out and we couldn't find her, after about 3 days. I don't think so, I think she would run and run and run! She can smell old scents like you wouldn't believe and she stays with them until exhausted from sniffing!
I sure hope you have found your Pei! I know the anguish you are going through and our prayers are with you!
Best of luck,
Kay
