Subject: Anyone remember me?

Hi all,

Some of you might remember me but by the looks of it a lot of you are pre-90's people and I came along a bit later!

I was at Radio Guys (and then GST when we 'rebranded') from 1990 to about 1996/7. I remember turning up and being well impressed with the professional attitude as a 15 year old kid trying to join up and be a member.

Back then we had the old PA type setup with the Production person sitting outside the booths but a few years later we inherited the St Thomas's gear and rebuilt Studio 1 as a self op to match the Guys Gold studio 2.

During my time at Guys I went from PA to DJ, to Weekend Session manager and then ran all the training sessions in the new self op studio. When you add in Kevin Sage and my hectic jingle making sessions, by 1996 I was nearly working up there full-time! I must have trained up about 15 people on that new desk - what happened to them?

Fav memories have to be doing the 'live OB's' on Bank Holiday outside - running LONG cables out the window and down the tree into the courtyard! Kevin and I running around interviewing all sorts of random people. I also was part of the marathon broadcast we did somewhere around 95 or 96 where everyone did 10 hours straight presenting.

After I left college I went off and worked for a few TV companies, LNN, GMTV and then full time at the BBC in 97 which meant my time was a bit stretched and I couldn't do a regular slot and gradully drifted away.

I do remember Alan Plesants and John Pennell doing a sterling job keeping everything ticking over near the end but the hospital just wasn't interested anymore and we were losing committed members.

I always intended to come back but by the time I could afford the time - GST had closed down and been erased from history. What a shame. :(

I've still got some tapes around somewhere of my old shows and a box of old carts with jingles on them. Nothing to play them on though!

Oops! Bit of an essay there. I got caught up with the nostalgia...

Cheers

Matt
