In the knock-down drag-out super finals for Men's AA Sand Intramurals only one team could emerge victorious. In the first game, it looked like a runaway freight train in the form of Chad "I just got punched in the face at basketball IM" Stoerner and Matt "Hey, I'm just filling in for Geoffrey" Phelps. Chad and Matt up 18-11 were laying a Smackdown of WWF proportions with their tenacious D and hustle. However, David and Karlis would not help an old man pick up change in the elevator, and decided to make it a game taking it back to 20-22. It still wasn't enough, and the freight train rolled through the end of track with Chad and Matt winning 25-21, sealing up game 1.

Game 2 was a little different story. Like most great battles there was an ebb and flow to the whole match. David "The air is a little thin up here" Lee rained down bolts of lightning and heart-stopping thunder as he pummeled ball after ball. Rally after rally ensued with all players flying to the ball like Mighty Mouse to crime. Karlis "I think I'm unconcious" doesn't remember a whole lot about this game. Mostly because he was playing out of his mind, but partly because he is old and forgets things. During a crucial part of the match a minor injury was sustained. Matt "I am the One" Phelps pulled his best Neo impersonation and tried to dodge the bullet that is David's line swing. A succesful dodge left the ball to create a crater just out of bounds, and Matt's neck was never the same. Somehow David and Karlis managed to keep their composure in the ever intensifying points to pull out a victory in game 2.

With the stage being set at 1 game a piece, the ever important farkle was ready to take place. Karlis "LL RPS (Latvians love Rock-Paper-Scissors)" Dunens won choice for the 3rd game and elected to have the gusty wind in their face. Chad and Matt chose receive as expected, but then in a surprising move Karlis "let's flip the script" Dunens, decided to put his own team down 0-1 and take receive instead by serving out of bounds. A clinic was put on by Chad "I'm too fast for my own good" and Matt "Look what I found" Phelps on how to play incredible defense and get absolutely every ball up. David was noted as saying "I hit the ball exactly how I wanted to and where I wanted to, and they still picked it up." Kristi "I'm always cold and need 8 longsleeve shirts on when I'm outside at night" Mendl was the lone witness to the classic offense vs. defense matchup. Each team was relentless in their pursuit of perfection (Lexus), on their toes and moving forward (Toyota), zoom zoom zoom (Mazda) to get every touch. With every "Let's punish these turkeys with our spikes", there was a "We can dig any spike they can dish out." There comes a time when the unstoppable force and the immovable object collide. After this collision, Phelps only had a sore neck. When it was all said and done, and the dust cleared, and the fat lady sang, the final score echoed across the courts, "15-13". There would only be one team with the dubious distinction of class AA intramural champion. Got It! Otherwise known as their alter egos mild-mannered David Lee and Karlis Dunens. Congrats also go out to Chad Stoerner and Matt Phelps/Geoffrey Schiffli for making it that far and playing some of the most fun sand volleyball in a long time.
