The battle won



When will we lie once more to heal our pain,
my blood thins, growing weaker in this cold
shall reminisce your hand, till longing holds:
wet cloth consumes the winter stinging rain
beats heavy on my brow, time and again!
can’t feel my toes, inside of leather folds,
a warmth does beckon words I never told
will pray through biting winds you are not slain.

There is, a burning light my eyes can see
through soot on dusty glass, still flickering
gives strength to overcome, I long to be
held close for all this night, eternity;
laid bare are all my mortal gifts I bring
to give all that I have: now yours, like me.
