La Madeleine


As I walk beside these temple walls,
days heavy sky no hindrance,
drawing bows-
gold cherub stones, Napoleon! he stood here once.
Lipstick tastes each lazy breath,
to breathe
my cigarette breaths smoke!
plumes across another ordinary
contemporary, watercolour day.
Allure, bonjour, the merciful are quiet gone
by request my weakened presence,
another city beckons, with its blacker dust
to stain my pores, with smut and grime.
Raise a champagne glass, to represent or bind
a contract sealed, where once there was your kiss:
the suitcase grinds in absence of its wheels
this moment cannot steal no more my strength,
yet still: I have these tears::: beside La Madeleine.
