Through thought emotions receive value.
Self(Id) may entertain anger one moment,
then enjoy bliss brought from cool breezes, or
the passions of tender love.
Self may neglect that love the next moment
for melancholy, or hatred, or greed.
Self seeks it's own rewards, and discards
feelings as empty vessels, broken shells without meaning.
The mind who follows behind to gather up
all the loose fragments and hollowed rinds
so it may seek their origin, calls them treasure.
This mind would dedicate it's energy to study,
that by gleaning knowlege of Self, by understanding emotion,
he may learn to conquer their mysteries.
Enlightened beings regard both tear and smile and grimace alike:
priceless diamonds of truth (and as truth, they are eternal),
while children toss fortunes away,
concerning themselves only with each moment's shallow perception.
SM.

Kinda preachy, I know, but fashioned to resemble eastern philosophy: gentle confidence. Here's a lighter one...

'The Way': an eastern minimalist comedy.

everything you see
is always a mini-me.
