Younger Than

I should write something
meaningful today;
celebrate what would be
eighty years,
taken too soon
younger than I

Is this some form
of guilt piercing
my veins, make
me think of another's
dream I had no control
over

A form of therapy
to recover drowned
core; empty the vessel
let the healing begin

Music moves through
me without thinking
of the words,
they float overhead
to collect the memories
that I tend to forget

I wonder how much lied
inside of him, now inside of me

I'm amazed as well
these words flow like
a river that never
dries, waits for all
the right time
in the world
to splash your face
with stains that will show
your sins
on some final day

we never know when it comes

He knew, planned the funeral
himself, selected the clothes
he wished to be buried in,
to keep him wrapped in
our hearts and Daddy
I miss you
