Tree


Far far away in the hot desert I walk,
The sun so hot I can not breathe,
The inferno burning my skin,
With no sweat left to spare;

Searing winds blowing at my hands and my face,
My swollen tongue stuck to my mouth,
My eyes so dry they close in pain,
No compass to guide me;

Behold I found you in this of all places,
Giving fruit to the barren sand,
Casting shade on crystal waters,
And life to my very soul;

And as you rose into space to catch the sun,
Your leaves fluttering in the wind,
You gave this lonely spirit hope,
That life was not at end;

It was then I chanced upon bleak horizons,
And as I gazed the distant hill,
A shadow came through sunlit waves,
And I beheld a tree.
