The Ornament

I carefully unwrap this sentimental ornament,
imaginary tie that connects my heart,
a piece of youth lined with silver,
holds more than a decade of childhood memories.

Hung on a tree every year of my life.
This breakable decor has seen many a day,
tucked away in a box far more.
Growth came for me, this piece unchanged.

Still bright with glitter ... joy spelled out.
Remember mother helped me place it,
I could barely reach high enough.
Can see her with me.

All grown, I lift my child to place it.
High upon this tree, time repeats itself.
many have lived around this ornament,
Still holds sentimental value in our hearts.
