Posted this last year on WW.

Purgatory

Low sun; red, myopic,
Smeared upon the sky.
A hand on yours
Walks toward the dawn
Skin burning to the touch,
Breath whispers at your ear.
Eyes like spears pierce
The residue of image;
Gaze upon the naked soul.
Dunes as shades of ash
Stretch endless
Alternating light and darkness.
Sunward she points,
Destroyer of delights;
Each pace a memory relived
And placed upon the balance.
To take your place
From that grey lake
Another and another walks;
Yet when all is done
There you shall cross
The border of this realm
Raised up with dawn,
Cast down with dusk.
