That's a cute story about the bath.

About Teri Shaivo...I think that it depends on a lot of things. It's hard to know whether to believe her parents, who claim that she is responsive (smiles, makes faces, communicates in those minor ways) which leads me to think she is not totally comotose, but rather alert--and maybe not totally thinking functioning, but at least FEELING functioning. The idea that she is FEELING, to me, seems that starving her is very cruel indeed. It seems to me like saying that a 6 month old infant, who cannot fend for herself, is not able--nor should be assisted to live, because she cannot feed herself. If you left a 6 month old infant in a bed, and treated her like Teri Shaivo, wouldn't she starve? She is still FEELING, and responsive. This is probably a really bad comparison, and doesn't totally hold up my argument, because there are a lot of differences. On a spiritual level, I think as members of the church it would be a matter of figuring out through prayer if that person's spirit is still with us, and if so, then NOURISH their body! I think any kind of responsiveness is a clue that thier spirit is still with their body.

Anyway...just sort of my thinking. But I feel hesitant to form a real hard fast opinion, because her parents could be totally crazy--and maybe she is totally brain dead, or her husband could be completely sick and selfish, and she could be just severely brain damaged, but still responsive. I do like Pres. Bush's idea that it is better to err on the side of life.
